Abby peeking out of the barn
Monday, May 7th was a very sad day here on Russell's Ridge. Our sweet Abby passed away.
I'm not going to go into all the details. I will say that she had gotten her foot caught in a split of a tree and wasn't able to get it out. The best we can guess is she thrashed around trying to get her foot out and ended up breaking her neck.
She had already been gone for awhile when we found her. It happened sometime in the middle of the night.
We are so very sad this happened and have taken steps to make sure it doesn't happen to any of the others. We decided to fence around this particular tree and then we cut all the lowest branches off. We also cut the lowest branches off of all the other trees in the pasture. They are just too much of a temptation for the goats to try to get the tender yummy leaves.
Abby was a sweet goat. She had just turned a year old. It's sad that she died so young but she defiantly lived a full life here while we had her.
Abby was our mischief maker. :) -She loved to act silly and cause trouble if she could. There has been a couple times I've caught her trying to shove herself underneath the fence to get to the neighbors pasture. Abby did succeed getting over there once and when she got there she just stood there and cried until I got her to come back. Abby was very playful and tried all the time to get the other goats to play with her and be silly.
Abby saying "Hey mom, take my picture"
I was very worried about her twin sister Maddie. I thought she would be looking for her but she hasn't. I'm thinking that Maddie saw what happened to her sister and just knows that she isn't here anymore. I've been making sure to give her extra attention so she won't feel lonely.
We will never forget Abby and we know that she is happy and causing her mischief up in goat heaven now.
Sweet Abby
